In a recent update that has caught the attention of football fans, Swansea City manager Vitor Matos provided insights into the status of Jeserun Rak-Sakyi's transfer amid yet another injury setback for the team.
The 23-year-old winger has returned to his parent club, Crystal Palace, after being recalled from a loan spell at Turkish club Caykur Rizespor, where he played during the first half of the season. This move was officially confirmed just last Saturday, stirring speculation about his next destination.
As the transfer window opens, there is an increasing buzz around the possibility of Rak-Sakyi being loaned out again this month, with multiple Championship clubs expressing interest in signing him. Swansea City is reportedly among those keen on acquiring his services, having identified him as one of their primary targets.
Matos addressed the situation head-on during a press conference, stating that while Rak-Sakyi remains on the club's radar, there have been no significant updates from their end regarding a potential acquisition. "No, nothing to add about that," Matos replied when questioned if Rak-Sakyi's recall from Turkey changed anything in their pursuit. He elaborated further, noting, "I think not only for us, I think he's a player of interest to a lot of teams. That's why he played last season at Sheffield."
He acknowledged the winger's impressive qualities but tempered expectations by clarifying, "So he's a player who has a lot of things we like, but that doesn’t mean anything is set for the future, just yet."
Looking ahead, Matos faces the challenge of evaluating his squad's condition following a tough FA Cup third-round defeat against West Bromwich Albion, which was decided by penalty shootouts. The upcoming match against Birmingham City will require careful planning, especially since Josh Key has recently made his return from injury and Ricardo Santos has also resumed training.
However, the coach is now dealing with a fresh injury concern involving Ishe Samuels-Smith, a Chelsea loanee, who missed the last match due to a groin issue sustained during training. Matos shared the news, saying, "He will be out for around three weeks. He felt his groin—not a knock, but he felt it. So he will be out for three weeks and then come back again."
