Prepare for a tearful farewell! A beloved section of Disney World is set to permanently shut its gates in mere days, marking the end of an era for many park-goers.
It's official: Walt Disney World's Animal Kingdom is bidding adieu to a cherished attraction, DinoLand U.S.A. This fan-favorite land will be closing its doors for good on February 2nd. But here's where it gets interesting: this isn't just a simple closure; it's a transformation!
DinoLand U.S.A. is making way for an exciting new expansion called Tropical Americas, specifically a vibrant area named Pueblo Esperanza. This ambitious project, as announced by Disney Parks, will bring to life an Indiana Jones experience and an attraction inspired by the wildly popular Walt Disney Animation Studios film, Encanto.
Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro shared during last year's D23 showcase that the development of this 11-acre land is already in full swing, with Tropical Americas anticipated to welcome guests in 2027. For now, you can still explore DinoLand U.S.A. until its final day.
Due to the ongoing construction, some of the attractions within DinoLand are currently unavailable. These include TriceraTop Spin, the Fossil Fun Games, Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures, The Boneyard, Trilo-Bites, and Dino-Bite Snacks. And this is the part most people miss: while the rides are down, you can still snag some fantastic Animal Kingdom merchandise at Island Mercantile, Discovery Trading Company, and the Dino Institute Shop.
So, what exactly awaits us in Pueblo Esperanza?
The Indiana Jones attraction is set to be a truly unique adventure, unlike anything seen before. Imagine stepping into a preserved Maya temple alongside Indiana Jones himself, on a thrilling quest for a mythical creature. It promises an immersive experience that will transport you straight into the movies!
For fans of Encanto, get ready for a ride-through attraction that's the first of its kind for the film. You'll join Antonio in the magical Casita, where his extraordinary ability to communicate with animals takes center stage. His room has been reimagined into a lush rainforest, inviting you to embark on an exploration alongside him. The area will be a feast for the eyes, featuring a magnificent fountain and a charming carousel adorned with carvings of beloved Disney animals by a local artisan.
Plus, little adventurers will have a blast in a dedicated, themed play area within the new land, designed to spark imagination and fun.
Now, let's talk about what this means for the future of theme parks. The shift from a dinosaur-themed land to a vibrant Latin American-inspired area with beloved movie franchises is a bold move by Disney. Is this a sign of things to come, with more IP-driven lands replacing original concepts? What are your thoughts on this significant change at Animal Kingdom?
